Mark your calendars for the month of November: The Alhambra City Hall Gallery of Art (Alhambra, Calif.) presents an exhibition featuring renowned watercolorists Tom Fong and Fealing Lin (both previously featured in the magazine), “Joy, Love and the Zen of Watercolor.”

The show runs Nov. 4-28, with an opening reception 6-9 p.m. Nov. 10.

The Michigan Water Color Society (MWCS) has issued a Call For Entries for the 62nd annual exhibition, which will be held at the Muskegon Museum of Art, in Muskegon Michigan, from March 14 through May 10, 2009. Any Michigan resident, past or current, is eligible to submit up to two works of watermedia on paper for consideration. National artist, Mathew Daub, will be the juror for this competition and will make the selections for this years exhibition and awards. The deadline for submission is December 15th. This marks the first year that digital entries will be used to select the show. Please visit the MWCS website for a prospectus and all entry requirements.

In her first workshop, she demonstrates her signature pouring technique: Without a brush, she masks areas that are to remain white, and then pours transparent watercolors on the surface. In the second workshop, she creates an abstract watercolor painting, demonstrating techniques such as creating texture, using wax resist, masking, and scraping paint with the edge of a credit card.

Research your local environment and decide what makes it unique. Then consider methods of intimately exploring it in ways you might not normally attempt: by trail, by water, or even by air. Always be aware of your surroundings and pack appropriate equipment. If you're spending time on the water, be sure to carry your camera or other electronics in an airtight, waterproof container.
